Choice USA is joining forces with the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) and more organizations to help defeat Colorado’s so-called “Personhood” Amendment and other harmful initiatives on this fall’s state ballot.
Amendment 62, the so-called “Personhood” Amendment, is a repeat of a ballot initiative that failed in Colorado in 2008. It would grant constitutional and legal rights at the time of fertilization. Amendment 62 claims to simply define the word “person,” but is really a way to outlaw all abortions. It would also restrict access to reproductive health services, including contraception like birth control, the IUD, and emergency contraception. It could also prevent a woman from receiving lifesaving medical treatment, if the treatment jeopardizes a fertilized egg. It could even go so far as to criminalize miscarriages.
