Teen Clinic can provide two types of pregnancy tests, urine and blood tests. Both tests detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) which is produced by an implanted fertilized egg. The most common test is a urine test. Patients’ leave a sample of urine; we test it and receive accurate results in a few minutes. This test is affordable (no cost at Teen Clinic), simple and very accurate. The blood test is more sensitive to hCG but we rarely use that test at Teen Clinic. It takes a few days to get the results, it requires needles and it’s more expensive for our clinic. Only specific circumstances require a blood test for pregnancy.
