Teens who already have children are at an increased risk of experiencing another pregnancy while still a teen. Young people who are parents also often have even more barriers (money, time, transportation) to accessing services and information than other youth do. Through our new Home-Based Contraception Program, Womens Health works in collaboration with the GENESIS Program of the Boulder County Health Department to meet the needs of this specific population.
Through this innovative, one-of-a-kind collaboration, we provide a nurse who travels into the homes of participating GENESIS teen parents. There, she provides a health assessment, information, and
an injectable method of birth control to help already-parenting teens prevent a subsequent unintended pregnancy. This service is a natural progression from the complementary services which the agencies provide, helping to provide a seamless fabric of support for parenting teens and their families in Boulder County .
This service is currently offered ONLY to active GENESIS clients but, once the success of this method is proven, we hope to expand the service to other high-risk populations as well.
This is great! I am really glad not to become pregnant again yet.”
