Is the copper in Paragard bad for you?

Studies have shown that the level of copper in the blood does not increase with the Paragard; the amount of copper in this IUD would not be sufficient to cause toxicity.

However, remember that everyone responds to birth control differently. Some people experience increased cramping and heavier periods from the Paragard, so it's important to talk to your medical provider about your medical history and make sure you're getting the method that works best for your body.

Do I have to wait 7 days before having sex if I got the copper IUD?

The copper IUD works right away because there aren't any hormones that your body would need to adjust to. However, it's recommended that you do not put anything inside the vagina for at least a day after insertion to prevent any infection. Remember that you should still use condoms to prevent STIs.
